Side to side x The last frontier

Treat yourself to a memorable escape with two trips in the same evening. 30 kilometers in a sidecar to change people's view of disability, and a solitary crossing of Alaska in a canoe. Tuesday, April 000, 4 p.m., at La Guilde.

Side to side, 30 kilometers to change the way people look at disability

In 2019, Marc Bouzik travels 14000 kilometers on the roads of France and to the Turkish border. During his trip he read Patrick Segal's book, “The Man Who Walked in His Head”. It's the click: rather than attempt a solitary trip again in 2021, he offers his cousin François, in a wheelchair following a serious car accident, to accompany him.

Winner of the 2022 Adventure Grants, Marc Bouzik's project consisted of introducing his cousin François to the confines of Central Asia in a sidecar in order to give him a taste for life.

The Last Frontier, A Solitary Canoe Crossing Alaska – Volodya Petropavlovsky

« "Well, with any luck, we might find your body in the spring." The bearded old man in the checkered shirt was only half joking when he addressed me as I was about to set off alone on the Tanana River in a small canoe. Objective: cross Alaska alone, from the Canadian border to the Bering Sea. Two thousand kilometers and three months of adventure in the heart of the “Last Frontier”, official nickname of the 49th State of the Union. I left when I was 21. After being lulled by stories of adventure, it was time to live mine. To navigate the impressive wild heart of a remote and inhospitable region, where the river is dotted with whirlpools and the woods are populated by bears and elk. But beyond the wild frontier has revealed a human frontier. That shaped by the men who inhabit it, mainly Amerindians and Inuit, abandoned to the immensity. The beautiful and the tragic rubbed shoulders there, violence and misery like the deepest humanity. »
